When I saw this photo of the girl on the swing, it screamed “romance”. Loose curls, light and airy dress, soft makeup- she almost looks angelic. I felt a bit inspired to live passionately just by looking at the photo.
I once read somewhere that we should “dress the way you want to feel”. Simply stated, if you want romance, be romance. If you want love, be love. If you want more fun, be fun. And part of the “be” is our appearance as well, so you’ve got to dress romance, or love, or fun, or however we want to feel.
Well, I am a girl in love with love, and when it comes to clothing, I am in love with the ethereal, romantic looks that are popping up all over the place, making it much easier for us to ‘dress romance’.
Like this top (below) from Spool No 72. It can be great with jeans and a fun shoe, a flowing pant, or even a slim skirt. I love it because it is a translated version of what’s on the runway. This kimono style cascade blouse with a cinched waste is priced at $54:
Or this sweet little vintage Etsy find. It feels effortless and romantic, and can easily go from day to evening just by switching out accessories. I can see a blazer looking adorable over top for a day with a simple shoe, and going sans the jacket at night, but instead adding a great necklace and a low bootie with a high heel to give the dress a little pizazz:
Of course, you may just want to accessorize “romance”, rather than pour it all out there. I completely understand. There are days that jeans and a white tee just feel comfy, but throw in a headband and shimmery ballet flats, and you’ve added instant romantic style. Like this one from j.crew, on sale for $19.99. It has a little bit more of an edge than the flowery headbands, but I still feel its whimsy:
So, find something romantic to throw on and embrace the attitude of your clothing. Fall in love with yourself, your mate, your job, your family, your friends, your neighbors, your life – you deserve it!
