I got this beautiful card in the mail yesterday from my dear friend Marta that reads on the front “Soaring is never boring…” , and the words just spoke to my heart. I have been thinking a lot about this, because seeing people soar lights up my heart so much.
I think what blocks many of us from spreading those wings is trying to perfect a plan before we go. You may have heard the phrase “It’s not your job to worry about the how.” Here’s my take on this…
The What, The How, and Absolute Certainty
When Michael Young and I began The Domesticated Dad, we had no idea how it was going to work. We were flat broke and in the food business, that can be the kiss of death. Everyone said we needed to have money in order to make money, and most food business fail within the first two years. 6 years later we are still growing – we have our own spot to eat in or take out in Asbury, we cater everything from baby showers to weddings to community events, we have delivered thousands of free lunches and meals to families in need in our community, all by the grace of God, many kind angels, and lots of blood, sweat, and tears.
When Jessica Varian-Carroll and I talked about creating SOAR Women’s Symposium, it was the same thing! We had no idea how we would be able to fund it. But we had a vision of bringing 100 women together every six months so we picked a date, put out an Eventbrite, asked the most inspiring women to lead sessions and share their stories (and they graciously said YES!), invited every amazing woman we knew, and SOAR has grown piece by piece, two years later going on our 5th SOLD OUT Symposium, and filling the room every time with the most extraordinary energy all by the grace of God, many kind angels, and loads of hustle.
These are just two examples of why the “How” is really not our concern when we know the “What”. The “What” sparks our vision, and when your “What” includes using your gifts and serving others, I do believe God jumps on board and delivers by showing you step by step what to do and sometimes simply amazes you by doing it for you behind the scenes. It does not mean it’s easy, and you’ll definitely make mistakes and fall on your face sometimes, but as long as you get back up and keep going with absolute certainty, it comes together perfectly as it should.
I came up with an affirmation when my mind starts spinning trying to think about the “How” during challenging seasons.
“It’s not my job to worry about the How, I simply must Allow the vision to come to be.”
Allowing has an open energy. And frees us from the stress energy that ultimately blocks our blessings. I know from my own experience and from the thousands of clients I have worked with that stress is like a cinderblock squashing your dreams while certainty is like a magnet bringing forth what’s meant for you.
And if something is not meant for you, no matter how hard you work, it may not come the way you planned. Better things will though, because God’s plan can be greater than our own.
Trust me, I’m definitely not perfect at any of this, but in the moments that I let go and let God, miraculous things flow in, in ways both big and small.
And that’s why I share this with you.
Know your “What” or simply use your gifts or even simpler yet, ask God to use you for all that is good. Hold that vision, be still, and listen to the guidance, follow the flow of where the energy is good, do the work, and allow the miracles to happen.
