All I can say is “BRRRR” right about now- it’s been really cold! I actually love the chill in the air, it’s refreshing. And, it flat-out smacked me in the face yesterday.

Let me explain: We were rushing around trying to get LuLu off to school, the Little Man gobbling his banana, and Lu slurping up her cereal. As they each finished their last bits of breakfast, while sipping my morning coffee my head began spinning about the holiday to-do list, what needed to get done for clients, the writing I needed to make more time to do, and how I needed to pick up a gift for the ‘giving  tree’ at Lu’s school.

I scooped up the Man who was bundled so much he could hardly move, and pushed open the front door.

Smack. Cold air.  And a deep breath in. Ahhhhh.

I felt like my eyes opened wider – all of the sudden my head cleared, and I was back to the present moment. The kids had huge smiles on their faces. Lu told me it was so cold because it was winter. I said, “Let’s run for it, guys!” And we made a skip-dash run for the car giggling the entire time.

Once Lu was in school, the Man and I took our time walking back to the car relishing in the fresh, chilled air. He held my hand tight, and said, “Mama, let’s go Kohl’s.”  He loves how Kohl’s has tons of bright red trees and garland lining the ceilings, not to mention a wall of toys devoted to Thomas the Train.

I said, “Ok, mannio. Let mommy write her list and then we’ll go to Kohl’s.” I grabbed my trusty notebook  and dumped out the stuff that was clogging up my brain during breakfast.

Being clear is major for me- I don’t function the same with a cluttered mind, so thank God for the cold air smack in the face. It swiftly brought me back to the present moment.

I can’t brain dump well or write a focused list when my mind is swirling. I like to do it when I am present- I miss less things that way, and make more sense. Once I actually found a list I wrote that said “Get doof”. I’m assuming I meant “Get food”, but even still, how clear is that? I much prefer being specific so I know where I am headed when I go to the food store and don’t waste time doing the aimless food store wander, plus I save money when I just head in the direction of exactly what I need.

We decided to go to Kohl’s to look for dolls my niece wanted, and then Michael’s so I could get the last of the crafty things. We would finish at Wegman’s to pick up dark chocolate chips for the cookies I was planning on baking, with Lu and Man’s help, of course.

How do you clear your cluttered mind? What brings you back to center? Please share!!
