I am surprised at how many perfectly fabulous women don’t realize just how fabulous they are…
Let me explain. Last year on my radio show, I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Genevieve Ferraro, founder of The Jewel Box® home. She is smart, witty, fun, real, glowing, gorgeous, and living her purpose- assisting people to create beauty out of any size space. She got into this business after her dream of owning a big home was crushed (thankfully) by her husband, who chose practical over prestigious.
The Gift Within the Imperfection
Yes, Genevieve’s dream was crushed years ago. But, now Genevieve has been so busy, her website visited by thousands, she has a literary agent, and she is loving her life. She is living her purpose without a doubt in her mind; she did not plan to create a business or even intend to make money by blogging about style in smaller homes.
Simply Sharing a Passion Becomes Her Purpose
The Jewel Box Home began simply because Genevieve wanted to share her tips for loving the space you’re in, regardless of size. Because that’s exactly what she does- Genevieve entertains, she cooks, she makes goody bags for guests. And, every night she sits down at the dinner table with her family. Admittedly, it may not be until 9pm, but they make it a point to connect. And, that’s her definition of balance.
Answer me this- does she not sound fabulous?
The Irony of the ‘Successful’ Women
But, yet, when I asked her the question, “Do you feel successful?” Genevieve struggled for a second. She had a hard time saying “YES!” It may have been fear of sounding boastful, or perhaps she just wasn’t sure if she considers herself a success. My thought is you define your success, throw society’s standards away!
Regardless, I had to share this with you, because I think she is like so many of us other women out there- feeling a wee bit guilty for relishing our accomplishments, downplaying them even. Yet, when our daughter says the alphabet, our son hits the ball, our husband gets a promotion, our best friend books a new client- we are bursting with excitement!
Remember, it’s ok to be proud and take care of YOU, too! If some people perceive your personal enthusiasm as boastful rather than inspiring, perhaps they are struggling with where they are in their own lives. Love them just the same. Who knows? Maybe they will learn from you and create the same enthusiasm for themselves.
Hold your head high, let your dreams be your wings, and you will soar!!
this was a great reminder to think differently than we were taught!!! being honest about our successes as well as our failures means we are living in balance and we are whole…
yes! thank you so much for reading, and love what you said about being honest about both our successes and failures…so very true!
