Yesterday the air was cool. We all wore thermals, my husband lit a fire, I woke up and baked zucchini muffins, later in the day made escarole soup, and for dinner, we had a hearty vegetable stew.
We sat on the porch in the evening, and the smell of the fire filled the space. Lu and the Little Man found their sleeping bags and laid in front of the fireplace playing games. This is why I love the fall.
The change of seasons inspires me. I welcome and embrace each, so I decided to write a list of some of the things that I adore in these autumn months:
* Hot baths with the breeze coming in the cracked-open window
* Cuddling on the couch under fuzzy blankets
* Going door to door on Halloween (not just for the candy, but to reconnect with neighbors we don’t always get to see)
* Pumpkin picking
* Jumping with Lu and the Man in piles of multi-colored leaves
* The feeling of comfort in cozy sweaters, cargo pants, ankle boots, sweater socks
* Darkness reminding me to go to sleep a bit earlier
* The sun rising in the window waking me up earlier
* Laying in crunchy grass enjoying a fall picnic
* Going on a haunted hayride and holding tight to my husband
* Dunkin Donuts bringing back Cinnamon Spice coffee
* Changing the summer flower planters over to mums of every shade and color
* The cool feel of the sand beneath my bare feet on a serene beach
* The smell of my Aunt Jeanette’s kitchen while the whole nation takes a day to give thanks
