There are so many incredible people in this world. I happened to find Melissa and her website Operation Nice in a “one link lead to another” kind of way, and I felt immediately connected to her mission “to spread the concept of being nice, as simple as that may sound”.

It does sound simple, and I believe it really is.

On Melissa’s website, she makes it even easier by giving “Nice Assignments”. Here is one of them that I had to share. It’s about forgiveness.

I think many of us ‘surface forgive’ in order to smooth over a situation, but still hold on to things on the inside. But, true forgiveness isn’t about just getting along. It’s not about right or wrong. It’s about understanding that we are each imperfect, that we make mistakes, that we may not always see eye to eye. True forgiveness sets us free, lightens the load that drags us down.

So today, try Melissa’s “NICE Assignment”…

Today’s Assignment: Practice Forgiveness

In the Mayo Clinic article, “Forgiveness: Letting go of grudges and bitterness”, author Katherine Piderman, Ph.D. discusses the benefits of embracing forgiveness in our lives.

“Letting go of grudges and bitterness makes way for compassion, kindness and peace. Forgiveness can lead to:

  • Healthier relationships
  • Greater spiritual and psychological well-being
  • Less stress and hostility
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Fewer symptoms of depression, anxiety and chronic pain
  • Lower risk of alcohol and substance abuse”

Well gosh, I think it’s time to clean out the grudge archive and make room for some more kindness, right?

“I’ve been tryin’ to get down to the heart of the matter. But my will gets weak and my thoughts seem to scatter. But I think it’s about…forgiveness, forgiveness.”
