I went into my refrigerator and noticed some avocados in the bin. I decided to make a quick avocado spread as a healthy alternative to mustard or mayo. It’s so simple to do, and adds great flavor to sandwiches, salads, crackers.
What You’ll Need
1 Avocado
Garlic (minced)
Lime Juice
1 teaspoon Mayonnaise (or softened cream cheese)
Sea Salt (to taste)
Let’s Do It
Peel the avocado and remove the pit. Then, it really is as simple as smashing all of these ingredients together with a spoon until you reach your desired level of creaminess. You can be fancy and put it in a processor, but it’s really not necessary.
Tastes Great With
* Turkey sandwich with sliced tomato
* Chicken salad (alternative to plain mayo), like this one from Food for My Family:
* Cracker topped with a little melted cheese and chopped olive
* Turkey or Soy “BLT”
* Fresh Baked Bread- roll out dough and spread a light layer on before baking. Use the warm bread as a base and pile on veggies for an avocado “pizza”, like this one from Buttermilk Press:
Bonus Benefits
Avocados are rich in good fats and nutrients. While you want to be careful with how much you consume in a day because it is calorie dense (having half is fine), this little super food provides lutein for eye protection, folate and Vitamin E for heart protection, beta-sitosterol for lowering cholesterol, oleic acid for breast protection- they are basically little powerhouses packed with flavor.
