Check out some of Jennifer’s tips below.
Jennifer Tuma-Young passes along these great tips so you can have fun and enjoy yourself without worrying about the silly little number on the scale. We are so much more than numbers!
• Instead of cookie-making parties, start a holiday tradition that doesn’t center around food. Gather friends for a gift-wrapping or scrapbooking party. You’re still getting together to celebrate and seeing your friends, you’re just not focusing on food.
• When you go to holiday parties, it’s all about location. If you sit right near the food, you’ll be tempted to eat more. So instead of sitting near the buffet, plant yourself far away.
• Don’t focus on busyness, shopping, and stress. This holiday season get out and connect with the world around you. Focus on making a great holiday meal, dessert, or gifts for another family! There are many local organizations that are willing to help match families up. And if you don’t have time to cook the meal, make a basket with all of the ingredients. This will help take the focus off the stress and fill you with holiday spirit. Stress less and be healthier from the inside out this holiday season!!
• When you’re at parties, keep it simple. You don’t have to eat everything that’s served; just pick your favorites.
• With a larger plate there’s a tendency to want to fill it up and eat large portions of everything! The solution: Use a smaller plate. You’ll still get to enjoy the food but you won’t overindulge because you’ll be eating smaller portions.
• If there’s only one size plate, make a base of healthy food like fruit, veggies and salad. After you make a base of the good stuff, you can sample whatever you want. Your plate will be full, and you can still taste a little bit of what you wanted to try.
• Leave the stretchy pants at home. Don’t wear “growable” clothes because they often hide the feeling of fullness after a big holiday meal. Allow your body to tell you you’re full.
