“Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” ~ Steve Jobs
I have to admit, I am a PC, not a MAC. Partially because if I had it my way, I’d still actually be a typewriter. I’m a bit of an old soul in some ways, I guess. I did get an iPod a few years back, and had a blast downloading my favorite songs and making playlists – it brought me back to my 8th grade mix tape days…and so when my phone was up for renewal, I ventured into 2011 and chose an iPhone. I was in awe instantly.
As I learned the story of Steve Jobs, I was an immediate fan. He’s a visionary, an inspiration, and not only revolutionized the world of technology, he is a life teacher – he’s endured rejection, set-backs, failures, naysayers…yet his passion, resilience, and ‘gifts’ graced us all. And, if you haven’t done so already, I urge you to take 15 minutes to watch his commencement speech to the students at Stanford University, How to Live Before You Die. He tells 3 stories that you must hear. My words will not do his justice.
He definitely made his mark on the world, utilized every ounce of creativity he was given, and so I dedicate this song to him, and everyone out there that has ‘gifts’ they are waiting to share – share them now. Leave your legacy, make an offering unapologetically, as Steve Jobs left his. Here is “Legacy” by Nichole Nordeman:
I LOVE Nicole Nordeman AND this song! 🙂
Thanks, Tamisha!!! Yes, I do too! And it got in my head after posting – I couldn’t stop singing it (really loud) last night – my kids were cracking up at me 😉
